BATTLEFIELD BIKE RIDE:
IN FLANDERS FIELDS
SEPTEMBER 6 — 12, 2026

BETWEEN THE CROSSES, ROW ON ROW,
WE HONOUR THEIR SACRIFICES
“Between the crosses, row on row”. These words have the power to awaken memory and encapsulate the spirit of Remembrance. The 2026 Battlefield Bike Ride will take us through the hallowed poppy fields of Flanders, where LCol John McCrae composed his iconic poem amidst the devastation of the Great War. We will visit the very battlefields where Canadian soldiers fought and fell in the mud and chaos, including the medical bunker where McCrae wrote his famous lines.
Our journey begins in Bruges, one of the world’s most picturesque cities. Often referred to as the Venice of the North, Bruges enchants visitors with its winding canals and timeless charm.
Much of our route will focus on Ypres, which held crucial strategic importance during the First World War due to its position along Germany’s intended advance into France. Although Ypres was nearly destroyed during the conflict, it has been painstakingly restored. We will explore the town, attend the ceremony at the Menin Gate, and discover the surrounding battlefields that make up the historic Ypres Salient.

IN FLANDERS FIELDS
IN FLANDERS FIELDS THE POPPIES BLOW
BETWEEN THE CROSSES, ROW ON ROW,
THAT MARK OUR PLACE; AND IN THE SKY
THE LARKS, STILL BRAVELY SINGING, FLY
SCARCE HEARD AMID THE GUNS BELOW.
WE ARE THE DEAD. SHORT DAYS AGO
WE LIVED, FELT DAWN, SAW SUNSET GLOW,
LOVED AND WERE LOVED, AND NOW WE LIE,
IN FLANDERS FIELDS.
TAKE UP OUR QUARREL WITH THE FOE:
TO YOU FROM FAILING HANDS WE THROW
THE TORCH; BE YOURS TO HOLD IT HIGH.
IF YE BREAK FAITH WITH US WHO DIE
WE SHALL NOT SLEEP, THOUGH POPPIES GROW
IN FLANDERS FIELDS.
